Real Estate Investment

One of the most notable things about the United States is how widespread and easily accessible investment opportunities are. People can invest in many things, including:

  • Stocks
  • Government bonds
  • Mutual funds
  • Annuities
  • Money market funds
  • Corporate bonds

All people need is money and legal documentation.

Another major area in which people in the United States can invest in is real estate. When investing in real estate, people have several options about how to do so. One thing they can do is purchase bare land and rent it out to builders and developers who will construct something on the land. Or, if the land already has something on it the owners of the land can collect rent.

Another way by which people can invest in real estate is by building on someone else's land. For example, if someone pays a land owner rent to build an apartment complex or to build an office building on the land, then the builders can collect rent from people who use the apartments or office building.

Investing in real estate, however, is not as easy as investing in stocks of bonds. Purchasing land or building a building requires a lot money, money that most people do not have. Additionally, yearly taxes on property are high; for stocks and bonds, people only pay taxes if and when they sell their securities.
