Austin Tenants' Council

In the United States, owning a home is a dream of so many people. Many people, however, cannot afford to own a home or even take out a mortgage. As a result, they resort to renting a home, whether that home is an apartment, condominium, or house.

Like owning a home, renting a home has its benefits as well its drawbacks. One of its major potential drawbacks is that the renter has to form a relationship with another individual—the owner of the residence. Sometimes the owner and renter have a good relationship. Other times, however, the owner and the renter have a bad relationship, and the owner does not fulfill her or his responsibilities towards the tenant.

This is where the Austin Tenants’ Council steps in. The Austin Tenants Council is a private, non-profit organization that provides advice and guidance to tenants to resolve landlord-tenant disputes. The Austin Tenants’ Council provides guidance in relation to Fair Housing as well as general legal advice. For example, if a tenant feels that a landlord is discriminating against her or him, the Council will help the tenant fight for her or his rights. Or, if a tenant feels that a landlord has breach her or his side of the lease contract, then the Council will guide the tenant to getting out of the lease legally.
