5 Steps to Refinancing Your Home

Home refinancing can be a wise choice if you are looking to consolidate your debt, have recently made some major improvements to your home, or are looking to pay off your loan sooner than expected. Whatever the reason, it is important to know the steps involved in home refinancing before you get started.

The 5 Steps for Home Refinance

  • Step #1: Apply for refinancing. You must fill out an application to a mortgage company or lender. The prospective lender will review your credit to see if you qualify for refinance.
  • Step #2: Hire an appraiser. An appraisal is conducted to determine the current value of your home. The value can change over time depending on the home's condition, improvements made, and the area's overall real estate value.
  • Step #3: Obtain your loan and interest rate. Once the appraisal of your home and approval of your loan are complete, if you qualify, the lender will offer you the loan with the set interest rate.
  • Step #4: Sign your agreement. If you agree to the loan conditions of your refinancing, you must sign with a notary to receive the funds. A notary is a person who is authorized to verify the validity of your loan documents and other legal documents and will serve as a witness to the signing.
  • Step #5: Receive your loan. Once documents are signed, the refinance is final. Any previous mortgages will be covered by the refinanced loan so that you are left with just the single, refinanced loan.

A mortgage company can help you determine if refinancing your home is a good option for your family at this time. Refinancing can be expensive in the short term but, if conducted properly and at the right time, can save you money in the long term. A good mortgage company that is familiar with your area can give you accurate advice on whether or not to refinance.
